Custom Software Development

SaaS products, internal platforms, and MVPs engineered to be extended - with the architecture decisions written down and the tests that let you change things safely.

The problem

Software slows down long before anyone admits it

The first release is quick. Two years later the same change takes six weeks, nobody wants to touch the billing module, and onboarding an engineer takes a month. Nothing broke - the system simply accumulated decisions nobody recorded and coupling nobody intended.

Off-the-shelf tools often fail for the opposite reason: they fit ninety percent of the process, and the remaining ten percent is the part that makes the business distinctive. Teams end up paying for a platform and then paying again in spreadsheets and manual work around it.

Our approach

Build for the second year, not just the first launch

We model the domain before the screens. Getting the core entities and their rules right is what keeps a system coherent as features arrive, and it is far cheaper to argue about on a whiteboard than in a migration.

We keep the stack deliberately boring where boring works - a relational database, server-rendered pages, background jobs - and spend novelty budget only where the product genuinely differentiates. Fewer moving parts means fewer ways to fail at 3am.

Every significant choice is captured as a short architecture decision record: what we chose, what we rejected, and why. Combined with a test suite that covers the rules that actually matter, your team can change the system confidently after we hand it over.

Capabilities

What this service covers

Individual capabilities are scoped per engagement - this is the range we work across, not a list every project includes.
  • Custom business software
  • SaaS product development
  • Enterprise application development
  • MVP development and product validation
  • Internal tools and operational dashboards
  • Workflow and process management systems
  • API development and third-party integrations
  • Legacy software modernization
  • Software maintenance and ongoing improvements

Deliverables

What you actually receive

Illustrative artifacts from a typical engagement. The exact set is agreed during discovery and written into the statement of work.
  1. 01

    Domain and data model

The entities, relationships, and business rules the system enforces - reviewed with your team before implementation starts.

  2. 02

    Working application in environments

Local, staging, and production, with the same deployment path used for every release from the first week.

  3. 03

    Architecture decision records

Short written records of each significant choice and its alternatives, so future engineers inherit reasoning rather than archaeology.

  4. 04

    Automated test suite

Coverage concentrated on business rules, integration seams, and the paths where failure is expensive.

  5. 05

    Handover and runbook

Setup instructions, deployment steps, environment variables, failure modes, and what to do about each.

Engagement

How a project in this area runs

Tailored to this service rather than a generic four-box process diagram.
  1. 01

    Discovery and domain modeling

Workshops with the people who do the work today, turning process knowledge into a data model and a prioritized scope.

  2. 02

    Thin vertical slice

One real end-to-end feature shipped to staging early - proving the architecture, the deployment path, and our working rhythm together.

  3. 03

    Iterative build

Two-week increments against a visible backlog, with a working build you can use at the end of each one.

  4. 04

    Hardening and handover

Performance, edge cases, documentation, and a structured walkthrough with whoever will own the code next.

Questions

What clients ask about Custom Software

Do we own the code?

Yes. You own the source, the repository, the infrastructure accounts, and the documentation. There is no license to keep paying and no component only we can maintain. That is a contract term, not a goodwill gesture.

Can we start small?

We prefer it. A tightly scoped first release that reaches real users teaches you more than a six-month specification, and it gives both sides evidence before committing to a larger budget.

What happens if we want to bring development in-house later?

That is a normal and healthy outcome, and we plan for it. Documented decisions, conventional tooling, and a test suite make the transition realistic. We will run the handover and stay available for questions during it.

How do you handle changing requirements?

We expect them. Scope is managed as a prioritized backlog rather than a fixed list, and every increment ends with something usable - so when priorities shift, you are trading future work rather than abandoning sunk cost.
